Experimental Typography

{Independent workshop conducted by Professor Hector Haralambous}

Purpose: To expand the imagination by creating a free-form design.

Assignment: Without planning, randomly cut a number of 3 x 3 inch (approximately 7.5 x 7.5 cm) squares from a newspaper, magazine, or other printed material. Next, select one that offers design possibilities and enlarge the image to a 8 x 8 inch (20 x 20 cm) square. While retaining the character and proportions of the original, improvise, that is create a new variation by enhancing the design, rewriting the copy, or changing the typefaces and illustrations. Copy can be in English, your native language, or both.

Typefaces: You may use any typeface you wish that will enhance your design.

Format: 8 x 8 inch (20 x 20 cm) with 3 x 3 inch (7.5 x 7.5 cm) swatch.

Time: 4 hours
